Today is International Volunteer Day, established in 1985 in honor of the people who make significant contributions to society by dedicating their free time to volunteering.
On this occasion, UN’s General Secretary Ban Ki Mun expressed the importance of volunteering.
“There are more than 1.2 billion young people in the world with great potential for addressing challenges and seeking change. Volunteering gives young people the opportunity to gain business skills, strengthen their leadership capacities and actively contribute to their communities and the global society”, he added.
The Red Cross, the oldest humanitarian organization in Republika Srpska, will celebrate International Volunteer Day day by organizing meetings with volunteers in all of its municipal offices and acknowledging its most prominent individuals.
In this manner the Red Cross will express its gratitude to humanists who donate their free time and often financial resources to help people in need.
