Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been chosen today at 21st plenary session of General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention, which was held in Paris, for the first time in its history, as the member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Committee (UNESCO).

It is one of the most prestigious bodies of the UN system, which is consisted of 21 member states, and it is, among other things, responsible for consideration of candidatures and making decisions about registration of world cultural and natural treasures on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Selection of BiH in the World Heritage Committee presents huge recognition of BiH and it contributes to protection of world cultural and natural heritage, so it is phenomenal opportunity for greather promotion of BiH on global level.

Selection of BiH in the World Heritage Committee is a result of intense campaign which was done in the previous year, in accordance with the relevant decision of Presidency of BiH, by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH in cooperation with Ministry of Civil Affairs and Commission for National Monuments of BiH, with active participation of all diplomatic-consular offices of BiH in the world.
