Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic stated on Wednesday that the sacrifice of all the people who died for the freedom of Srpska obliges everyone to maintain and strengthen Republika Srpska despite all the challenges, and provide all available help and support to the families of fallen fighters, disabled veterans and demobbed veterans.
In a greeting card to the Veterans Association and all former members of the Army of Republika Srpska on the occasion of the Day of Veterans of the defence and homeland war and First Serbian Uprising, the prime minister stated on her own behalf and on behalf of the Government that today is an opportunity to honour all those who gave their lives for freedom.
“The today’s holiday is an opportunity to remember with greatest respect and acknowledgment all those who gave the most valuable thing they had – their lives – for the freedom and peace we have today,” said Cvijanovic.
Aa total of 215,671 members of the Army of Republika Srpska fought during the 1992-1995 defence and homeland war and 23,184 of them gave their lives for Srpska.
The First Serbian Uprising was mounted on February 15, 1804 in Orasac in Serbia against the Ottoman Empire by hajduk companies as well as the village population and Serbian army which counted 25,000 soldiers.
