Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic and the Government Ministers held  consultations yesterday with representatives of the Association of Pensioners of the Republic of Srpska with regard to the preparation of the 2018 Budget and the Program of Economic Reforms for the 2018-2020 period.

In this context the meeting mostly referred to the improvement of the material status of  pensioners in the Republic of Srpska.

It had been pointed out on this occasion that the Government of the Republic of Srpska has continuously undertook many activities to improve the pensioners’ status and that one of the most important improvements was the transfer to the treasury system which in a short time secured regularity of disbursement of pensions.

Prime Minister Cvijanovic specified that as the result of gradual increments and taking into account the planned increase in the second quarter of 2018, the Government provided 17% higher pensions in less than four years.

For the purpose of additional improvement of the material status of pensioners, the Ministry of Finance would suggest to the local governments to be aware and take into consideration the needs of pensioners while planning their budgets for the next year.

Representatives of the Pensioners Association agreed that so far they had the support and understanding of the Government but also stated that they had additional expectations and requests in terms of improving the situation further.

To that end the pensioners particularly pointed to the necessity of strengthening the financial discipline and combating grey economy that would create realistic conditions and base for higher pensions.

The interlocutors agreed that the consultations and the meetings such as this one were very useful and in the interest of both sides and that further activities aimed at the improvement of the position of pensioners would continue and would be realized in partnership of the RS Government institutions and pensioners.  

In attendance of the meeting were also the Minister of Finance Zoran Tegeltija, the Minister of Labor and Veterans Issues, Milenko Savanovic and Director of the Pension Insurance Fund of the Republic of Srpska, Mladen Milic.
