Based on the grant of the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cultural Centre of Trnovo has run the project “Mapping and protection of the cultural, historical and natural heritage of the Trnovo Region.” Through this project we formed a project team that brought together the employees of the Cultural Center Trnovo, the municipality of Trnovo Republic of Srpska, Trnovo Federation, Tourist organization of Trnovo, UG “Bonitas” Trnovo, EPD “Treskavica Lakes”, PESD “Runolist 05”, PSD “Treskavica”, ŠG “Treskavica”, and the project included the rural household “Honey and milk” and SUR “Pivnica” Trnovo.
Within this project we have written a book – “The collection of cultural-historic and natural heritage of the Trnovo Region” and a site that you can find on the domain trnovo.org, which contains relevant information about history, culture, landmarks, natural treasures, accommodation capacities and tourism in general in the area of the entire pre-war municipality of Trnovo. We also prepared a unique map of cultural and historical and natural resources of the Trnovo region, and billboards with this map that are placed on the four most important locations in the municipality of Trnovo Republic of Srpska and the municipality of Trnovo Federation.
The main motive for the realization of this project was that Trnovo, its natural beauties, sights, cultural and historical significance and the richness of diversity rise from the average and dead of everyday life that surrounds us and return it back where they belong – in the focus of interest of the citizens of Trnovo, all those who draw roots from Trnovo, but also tourists who are increasingly coming to our region.
It was very difficult to gather material, photographs, legends and stories, because there was not much left of those. A group of enthusiasts gathered around this project has done their best to remember everything that is nice and important in this collection, and forgotten, as far as the Trnovo region, the citizens of Trnovo and past times is concerned.
We are aware that it was much easier to write about bad things, to criticize and to say that nothing is good and nothing is changing for the better, but we, the authors of this collection, did not want to do that.
We wanted everyone who would take a glance through this collection and read something from it, can create a positive image of Trnovo in his head, and see that it is worth fighting for progress and prosperity. We wanted to show that there is a way to use what God has given us, and preserve people and create an environment in which positive stories, events and people will be the center of interest. We wanted to represent progress and prosperity.
We wanted to show that diversity can be an advantage, that cooperation is possible. If there isanylink, intertwining and binding of different cultures, that is here in Trnovo.
In the book and on the site you can see the Trnovo region in the Roman period, through the Middle Ages, the era of the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the time of SFR Yugoslavia. You can feel the spirit of past times and see the natural beauty from which breath stops, for which many did not even know they are so close by.
Also is mentioned, the current state of this region, the advantages and disadvantages of new times, along with the message that things can be positive and better.
If this project draws public attention to this area, and tourists and citizens are interested to come to Trnovo as much as possible, it means that the authors have done a great job and fulfilled our mission.
We hope that this project will be just one of the many projects who will present Trnovo in a positive light in the coming period and promote the significant potentials of this area, especially in tourism.
