The police on Thursday arrested 11 people accused of fighting alongside Islamist militants in Syria and Iraq or recruiting and raising money for such groups.
Hundreds of Bosnians are thought to have joined the wars in Syria and Iraq, along with other Muslims from across the Balkans. Most Bosnian Muslims are secular or practice a moderate form of Islam. More radical strains have taken root since Bosnia’s 1992-95 war, fueled in part by poverty and unemployment.
