The searing drama “12 Years a Slave” that was named best picture at the Oscars will not be shown in theaters in Republika Srpska, said the Director of Oscar Film Banjaluka, Vlado Ljevar.
The drama about a free African-American man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery is too serious and would not receive much interest, said Ljevar adding that its screening would cost about 4 000 EUR which is far too much.
This is not the first time that serious films have bypassed Srpska, mainly due to the belief that audiences aren’t interested in these box office hits.
