New MoI’s measures aimed at maintenance of favorable security situation

The Ministry of Interior /MoI/ of Republika Srpska has decided to reorganise its rapid response forces in order to respond faster and more efficiently to the security challenges Srpska is facing, including a large number of illegal migrants.

Thus, in order to function better, the name of the Support Unit will be changed into the Gendarmerie, which will be filled by the active MoI members, primarily the young police officers who graduated from the Police Academy, the Srpska MoI announced.

“We believe that the Interior Ministry is able to respond in the future to the security challenges that will be ahead of the police, with well-equipped, professionally trained and specialised forces,” the statement reads.

Given that the establishment of a reserve police force requires a longer period of time and resources in terms of conducting job competition procedures and selection, equipping, providing uniforms and other related equipment, as well as the time for adequate training in order to put the reserve police force in operation, the MoI explains, we withdraw reserve police force related articles from the proposed Law on Amendments to the Law on Police and Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, which is in the procedure at the National Assembly.

The Ministry emphasizes that some time in the future, the Srpska MoI will again take the needs and possibilities for the establishment of a reserve police force within the MoI into consideration.
