6.000 signatures to save Sutjeska National Park

More than 6.000 citizens signed a petition requesting the National Assembly of Republika Srpska to prevent the construction of small hydro power plants in the National Park (NP) “Sutjeska”.

That number is double than was necessary to launch this civil initiative.

With this initiative ecologists wanted to enable the citizens to state their opinion on the construction of small hydro power plants in the “Sutjeska” National Park.

The campaign “Battle for Sutjeska“ was launched as a response to plans for “Drina Hydro Energy“ from Ugljevik to build five small hydro power plants within the Park.

“Sutjeska” is the oldest national park in BiH and is one of the biologically most diverse areas in South East Europe.
