As part of marking the EU’s 70th coding and promotion of a larger student body of women in the digital sector, the European Union in BiH and the UN initiative “IT Girls” organized a hackathon today, where 80 young girls from BiH participated. The event was opened by Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Khaldoun Sinno and Resident Coordinator in BiH, Ms. Sezin Sinanoglu.

“I am very pleased to be here with you today as a representative of the European Union, and I am particularly happy to be here because I am a father of three girls. What we’re actually going to try to do over these two days, today and tomorrow, is to bring together girls from BiH to increase their digital skills, “said the Deputy Head of Delegation.

UN Resident Coordinator in BiH Sezin Sinanoglu said that the most important thing for women is to support each another, even when competing. “Competing doesn’t mean you can’t recognize the success of another woman. Be their biggest support. They deserve it. They need it, because they will encounter many obstacles that men will easily overcome. I count on you to believe in yourself, to support each other and to encourage and congratulate yourself when you succeed. ”

The hackathon participants are divided into 18 teams and they will compete to solve various problems in their local communities.
