Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik on Tuesday opened a 25-km section of the highway from Drugovici to Prnjavor, which finalises the construction of the Banjaluka-Doboj motorway called “January 9,” for which project EUR402 million was allocated.
Dodik said this was a happy day for Republika Srpska because the motorway was open for the present and future generations.
“We are finishing this huge project today. I am proud and happy because of that. This is the road of national integration because in the next six years we will build a road from Doboj to River Drina, that is to Serbia,” Dodik stated during a formal address at the opening of the motorway in Drugovici.
The ceremony was also attended by National Assembly Speaker Nedeljko Cubrilovic, Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Nenad Stevandic, Srpska ministers, and Auto-putevi Republike Srpske CEO Dusan Topic.
The ceremony in Drugovici was also attended by mayors of Banjaluka Igor Radojicic, Doboj Obren Petrovic, Prnjavor Darko Tomas, Laktasi Ranko Karapetrovic, and numerous citizens.
The length of the motorway from Banjaluka to Doboj is 72 kilometres and it was built by the local companies. It can be travelled within an hour.
President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik stated in Drugovici outside Laktasi on Tuesday the January 9 motorway is a symbol of Republika Srpska’s power and that the implementation of infrastructure projects will contribute to national integration and economic development.
“This motorway goes through the centre of Republika Srpska of which I am extremely proud. Republika Srpska has shown it is capable of realising major infrastructure projects, which will be cost-effective too,” Dodik stated at the opening of the January 9 motorway section from the settlement of Drugovici to the town of Prnjavor.
Republika Srpska is a big construction site today, he said.
“We recently opened a modern University Clinical Centre, tomorrow we will open the Bocac hydropower plant, and on Friday we will open a modern hospital in Istocno Sarajevo. Those are some major projects realised this year by this government and I’m sure we won’t stop there,” said Dodik.
Without motorways, he said, there can be no new jobs or economic development.
The Srpska president thanked everyone who supported the idea of building a network of motorways in Republika Srpska.
“Srpska has experienced a hard period of pressures and our destiny is now in our own hands, which we will prove on October 7,” said Dodik.
He reiterated there could be no freedom without a state and that the state should have motorways and hospitals.
“We want peace in these parts and those who want it build motorways, they do not buy weapons. This motorway goes through the heart of Srpska and will go further to Serbia,” emphasised Dodik.
He thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Serbian leadership for the assistance provided to Republika Srpska.
“The unity of Republika Srpska and Serbia is natural because we are a single Serb people. We should not give up on that. We must build our national and state identity,” said Dodik, adding “Long live Republika Srpska, long live Serbia.”
