From the 19th of February B&H will feature on the European map of the MeteoAlarm website that provides early warnings of potentially dangerous weather for 650 regions, for 12 different weather predicaments.
With the increasing mobility of European citizens it is more and more important to be informed about potentially hazardous weather phenomena. Namely, www.meteoalarm.eu has been in use since March 2007 and has had more than three billion views.
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction – UNISDR and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) allotted funds to B&H for membership in the MeteoAlarm program through the implementation of the project “Building Resilience to Disasters in the Western Balkans and Turkey”.
The Federal Hydro-meteorological Institute of Sarajevo and the Republic Hydro-meteorological Institute of Banjakuka will officially start their activities on the 19th of February in cooperation with MeteoAlarm. Both institutions have completed all the technical requirements necessary for this weather service.
The official start of the MeteoAlarm program in Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important step in the IPA project aimed at disaster risk reduction.
