The new European ID-Judo (special needs competition) champion is 25-year-old Azra Dedic, a member of the ‘Una’ Judo club from the northwestern town of Bihac.

Dedic won the under 70 kg Championship in Cologne, Germany, on Saturday.

She also took bronze at the world championship last year.

“I cannot describe how proud we are of our Azra, especially of the extraordinary results she achieved. We thought that that only participating in such a competition is a success, but Azra is not coming back to Bihac without an award and recognition,” said Fikret Becic, her trainer.

“She has shown all of us how to fight for one’s country. She should truly serve as an example and motivation, she is a winner for life,” he added.

Dedic was also the first person with Down syndrome to be employed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The young woman became a Judo master at the Summer Camp of the Judo Association in Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity.
