Srpska President Milorad Dodik presented Mayor of the Israeli city of Modi’in, Haim Bibas, with the Medal of Honour with Gold Rays for friendly relations between Srpska and Israel in Banjaluka on Thursday.
Dodik decorated Bibas for his efforts in the promotion of human rights and tolerance between the people and nations, rule of law and freedoms, as well as economic, cultural and educational cooperation between the cities of Banjaluka and Modi’in.
The Srpska president asserted that the mayor of Modi’in had contributed to the development of good relations between Srpska and Israel.
“It is a special honour to decorate a man who is a proven friend of Republika Srpska and the Serbs. He attends the ceremony marking the killing of the Serbs, Jews and Roma in Donja Gradina and Jasenovac every year,” said Dodik.
He also noted that the cooperation between Srpska and Israel was at a high level.
“Republika Srpska is proud to have the Jewish Centre in Banjaluka and a good cooperation with Israel,” said Dodik.
Mayor of Modi’in Haim Bibas said that everyone must remember the suffering of the Jews, Serbs and Roma in Donja Gradina and Jasenovac.
“Today, Republika Srpska and Israel are stable, democratic societies, which is a guarantee that the crimes like those in Jasenovac and Donja Gradina will never happen again. Seven years ago we established cooperation with Srpska and I am very proud of what we have achieved,” said Bibas.
He thanked President Dodik for the medal and a chance to spend some time in Republika Srpska.
“It is a privilege to meet every year and work on our relations,” said Bibas.
