The EU has concluded its engagement in the process of implementing the Sejdic-Finci decision, now it is exclusively a matter for the B&H institutions, said the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Stefan Fule.
This is the moment for politicians in B&H to assume their initiative in this matter, stated Fule in Sarajevo adding that B&H is currently violating its international obligations and that the political leaders bear all the responsibility.
He assessed the meeting with B&H politicians as very disappointing, adding that the concrete consequences of the failure of the political talks on this issue is the non-implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the EU and B&H and the inability for B&H to file a credible application for membership in the EU.
Fule assured that this does not mean the EU will cease its engagement in B&H, but it will refocus on strengthening economic management.
He said that the EU will help B&H prepare a programme for economic reforms which will improve activities in the fight against the non-functional labour market, improve coordination in issues pertaining to economic and fiscal policies and create the best possible business environment in B&H.
Implementing these programmes, Fule explained, will be tied to current and future IPA programmes and announced the founding of a joint B&H and EU task force which should accelerate implementation of projects in B&H financed by the EU.
