Because of the debate over Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions on Russian officials, a series of planned topics, including the discussion on B&H, were cancelled at the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers held on Monday.
Croatia said in February that the EU needs a new approach towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, furthermore it addressed a “non-paper” to EU member states in which it advocates a specific approach towards B&H, which is in complete deadlock due to internal dysfunctionality.
“Unfortunately, there was no time for any other items on the agenda. However, our initiative for Bosnia and Herzegovina is something to be discussed and these talks will certainly continue,” Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusic told reporters after the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, adding that B&H will be discussed at the next meeting in April, when the ministers will adopt conclusions on the subject.
The new EU approach towards B&H, according to the Croatian proposal, would incorporate a special candidate status for the country.
