General Ljubisa Borovcanin came back to his family home in Velika Obarska near Bijeljina Tuesday afternoon to the notes of the WWI-composed patriotic song “March on the Drina”.
General Borovcanin arrived at 5.30 pm in Velika Obarska, where among the welcoming party was his former fellow veteran Milomir Savcic, the head of the Srpska Veterans Association, who expressed a wish that all Serbs secluded in jails come home and to their own Republika Srpska.
Borovcanin returned after serving two thirds of the 17-year prison sentence pronounced by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia /ICTY/ for war crimes in Srebrenica.
The General had been at the ICTY Detention Unit in Scheveningen since the spring of 2005 following a voluntary surrender.
He was sentenced in June 2010 and transferred to a jail in Denmark in November 2011.
