Hydro power plants on Drina – one of the most important joint projects

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that the construction of new hydro power plants, Foca and Paunci, on the River Drina, which will be built jointly by Srpska and Serbia, is at the moment one of the largest and most important projects.

“I think this is historically one of the most important projects. This will be our first joint energy investment which will influence on the energy situation in both Serbia and Srpska. It will certainly mean a lot for our energy stability and independence,” Brnabic said today at a press conference in Trebinje after a joint session of the Serbian and Republika Srpska Governments.

According to her, the implementation of this project will give a good political signal, in a sense, how much joint work can be done.

She expressed the hope that this investment will give momentum to the whole region to work together.

“There are extraordinary hydro potentials, primarily on the River Drina, which have not been used because of insufficient regional cooperation. I hope that this will be a good signal which will trigger further cooperation with Croatia and Montenegro so that we all together might have greater energy benefits,” Brnabic said.
