The results of a study conducted by the German Society for Foreign Policy showed that the European Union would be stronger if former Yugoslavia, as a unified country, became its member during the 1990’s.
This study examines what would have occurred had the EU invested more effort in the survival of Yugoslavia. The results show that many lives would have been spared and that the current economic crisis in the EU would have been prevented.
However, the research notes that the break up of Yugoslavia is inevitable, but that it would have occurred in a peaceful manner leading to the creation of several smaller EU countries.
