Every year on the 27th of January, the world pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. This date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Soviet troops in 1945.
Memorial services will be held at several locations throughout the world, including the former Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz, where at least 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were killed.
The International Day of Remembrance was established eight years ago by the UN General Assembly.
