Jahorina: The New Cable Car Bares the Name of Emir Kusturica

The Serb BiH Presidency Member Milorad Dodik officially opened the newly constructed Javor-Partizan cable car, 1100 meters long, with 36 cabins, and with a capacity of 2,700 skiers per hour.

Dodik congratulated the Jahorina Olympic Centre on another major infrastructure endeavor that takes the olympic beauty even faster to the very top of the european and world ski destinations.

He confirmed that the institutions of the Republic of Srpska will continue to strongly support the development of the Jahorina Olympic Centre, as well as other quality projects throughout the Republic of Srpska, leading to its more intensive development and international promotion.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Jahorina Olympic Centre, Nedeljko Elez said that the cable car will bear the name of the famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica, and the ski trail that follows the cable car will be named by the celebrated Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.

The Mayor of the municipality of Pale, Bosko Jugovic said that this local community will donate the lot to Novak Djokovic as a token of gratitude for his contribution to the promotion of Serbian sport in the world.

The investment is worth eight million euros and the cable car will connect part of the Prača ski area with part of the Poljice ski area, and the route will also work when other installations are not able to do so due to weather conditions.

In addition to the cable car, three ski slopes were built, arranged according to FIS standards, five kilometers long, secured by the wind protection system and covered with the artifical snow making system. Also, connecting paths leading to the gondola were made, as well as the newski  lift in Poljice, with a capacity of 1,200 skiers per hour.

The ride with the new cable car was free for all Jahorina guests from 10am to 3pm last weekend.

Besides Dodik, the attendees of the cable car opening ceremony were addressed by the Director of the Jahorina Olympic Centre, Dejan Ljevnaic, the President of the Supervisory Board of the Centre, Nedeljko Elek, special guest Srdjan Djokovic, the father of the celebrated tennis player Novak Djokovic, as well as the representative of the company Leitner which was the contractor.

As part of the cabel car’s opening ceremony, there was a concert at 8pm held by Sasa Matic.
