Wild water kayak and canoe world championship, Banjaluka-Vrbas 2016, where athletes from some 30 countries are taking part, opened last evening in Banjaluka. The Republika Srpska Minister for the Family, Youth and Sports, Jasmina Davidovic, said that her Ministry put this event on the list of events of special importance for Republika Srpska.
She said that this event shows that Banjaluka and Republika Srpska have potentials to organise great events and wished success to the competitors.
Championship director Nikola Stankovic said that athletes will compete in six categories.
He said that this is one of the greatest sports events that are organised in Srpska, and expressed the hope that the weather will be fine.
The director of the Banjaluka Tourism Organisation, Ostoja Barasin, said that Banjaluka is a city of sports and tourism.
“These athletes are also tourists, and this is an important event for tourism. We are glad that Banjaluka this time also confirmed that it is a good host for athletes and tourists,” Barasin said.
The executive director of the M:tel Company for sales and marketing, Djordje Misic, said that M:tel, as a socially responsible Company, supports the Wild Waters Kayak and Canoe World Championship for seniors, and expressed the hope that this event will become traditional in Banjaluka.
All races will be held on the Vrbas River and the Tijesno Canyon. The championship will end on Sunday, June 5.
The Vrbas Kayak and Canoe Club is the organiser of the event. The Office of the Republika Srpska President and the City of Banjaluka supported the championship.
