Kosovo: Mayors of Serb municipalities resign

The mayors of Zubin Potok, North Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvecan and Leposavic resigned from office due to discriminatory decisions by Pristina authorities and threatening the rights of Serbs in Kosovo, said Goran Rakic, the head of Serb List.

The decision to resign from the positions of mayor was passed this morning at a session of the crisis staff headquarters held in North Kosovska Mitrovica.

Rakic has announced that the mayors of the other six municipalities with the majority Serb population will resign, too.

“The resignation decision followed in response to a discriminatory decision by the Pristina authorities to impose 100% customs duty on goods from central Serbia and BiH,” Rakic told reporters.

He has said that the mayors will announce the resignation decision at a protest that will take place at 12.00 hrs in North Kosovska Mitrovica.

“As of today, we are ordinary citizens who are fighting for the protection of democratic rights,” said Rakic.
