Adviser to the Republika Srpska president, Radovan Kovačević, emphasized that Republika Srpska was established on January 9, 1992, in peace, when there were no war conflicts in BiH and no victims were killed that day.
Kovačević says the Serb people defended themselves in a war that some others wanted and fought for it on March 1 when, among other things, one Serb was killed in his hometown of Sarajevo and on March 26 when they killed a large number of Serb civilians in Sijekovac.
“But it is important that we respond to those evil-doers, malefactors who, shame on them, say that January 9 is the beginning of some kind of genocide. We must tell them that on January 9, following the example of the Jews, our closest relatives in terms of sacrifice, who declared the state of Israel in order to prevent the Holocaust from repeating, the representatives of our people, as descendants of the victims of the most terrible genocide in addition to the Holocaust in the World War II, decided that they would not allow the genocide of our people to happen again,” emphasized Kovačević.
He pointed out that it is what Republika Srpska is – freedom, victory and peace for all its citizens, regardless of their nationality, religion or any other affiliation.
Republika Srpska was founded on January 9, 1992 under the original name Srpska Republika of BiH.
It was founded by the Serb deputies in the then BiH Assembly, after they were outvoted in key issues concerning the survival of Yugoslavia and after the members of the other two nations started secession against the will of the Serbs who had constitutional status.
