President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and Principal of the Saint Sava Elementary School in Istocno Novo Sarajevo Danijela Mrda on Thursday unveiled a memorial to the children from Srpsko Sarajevo killed in the 1990s defence and homeland war and laid wreaths there.
The memorial honouring 120 young ones killed in the 1990s war in the area was consecrated by priests of the Metropolitanate of Dabar-Bosnia, while wreaths were also laid by parents of the children from Istocno Sarajevo, Mayor of Istocno Novo Sarajevo Ljubisa Cosic, and other delegations.
The memorial to innocent children from the area of Srpsko Sarajevo killed between 1992 and 1995 was installed in the yard of the Saint Sava Elementary School, and has the lyrics of the poem Sumrak /Twilight/ by poet Goran Vracar inscribed on it as a dedication to the late children.
The memorial was made at the initiative of the school board and Association of Families of Captured and Fallen Veterans and Missing Civilians of Istocno Sarajevo to cherish the memory of the 120 killed children, the youngest of whom was 16 months old, and the eldest was 17 years of age.
The resources for the memorial were provided by the office of the president of Republika Srpska.
