NEGATING EXISTENCE OF OTHER NATIONS AND LANGUAGES WITH “BOSNIAN LANGUAGE”

Serbian Language Standardization Committee Chairman Sreto Tanasić says those who insist on the term “Bosnian Language” want to deny the existence of other peoples and languages in BiH.

Tanasić, who is also a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska /ANURS/, tells SRNA that the name of the language is derived from the name of the nation everywhere in the world.

On the occasion of the recently adopted SDA Declaration, which reads, among other things, that the party’s primary and long-term goal is the affirmation of “Bosnian Language” as a joint identity of all BiH citizens, Tanasić emphasized that it was a fabrication of a language.

“Insisting on the ‘Bosnian Language’ rather than the term Bosniak language, as it is everywhere in the world – that the names of the languages be derived from the name of a nation – indicates that they want to dominate in BiH,” Tanasić said.

According to him, inventing a language that does not actually exist and forcing everyone to declare that entity called “Bosnian Language” as a separate language negates the existence of other nations and other languages.

“There is no specific ‘Bosnian language’ by the criteria of Serbian linguists, linguists of the region, even Muslims ones from Sarajevo, or any serious linguist in the world of Slavic languages,” Tanasić said.

He said that the status of the Serbian Language in the entire Serbian language-speaking and national space must be taken into account.

The Committee for Standardization of the Serbian Language was established in December 1997 by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts /SANU/, the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts and ANURS.

The founders are also the Serbian Language Institute SANU and Matica Srpska, the faculties from Serbia, Republika Srpska and Montenegro where the Serbian Language is studied, and the Serbian Literary Cooperative.

The purpose of the establishment was the need to bring together Serbian language experts and institutions dealing scientifically with the Serbian Language in the entire Serbian-speaking area, as well as the need for language planning.
