“I would like to return the favor and support for Rafa, it is great that he managed to return. He showed to me and to everybody else why he is here and what is the definition of the fighting spirit.”
Everything looked different a year ago, and Novak shortly paused during the ceremony.
– I am sorry, I am trying to remember all of the things that happened in the last 12 months. The fact is that I struggled with the injury, and then the elbow surgery, and now I am here in front of you tonight, after three consecutive Grand Slam titles. I can’t describe this with words. I want to thank my team for support. They encouraged me in good and in bad moments. Marjan, thanks for returning, and to all of the others as well. I want to remind you of my family and my wife, they were all watching – said Djokovic.
Serbian tennis player described Melbourne as a city which respects tennis players.
– The trophy is even more special when we take everything into consideration… Just like Rafa said, I can agree with him, all of the players that play in Australia feel good. That energy, great tennis, that is the Australian Open. I feel every corner of this city which incredible respects tennis players – said Djokovic and then said that he is coming for a new trophy next year.
– And the last, but not the least, thank you all for making this tournament better each year. I am returning here next year, this is an incredible experience – concluded Djokovic.
