His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia has sent a telegram to Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens over a large number of victims killed by the wildfire outside Athens, saying that the Serbian church will help as much as it can.
Addressing the Athenian archbishop with the words “Blissful Brother,” Patriarch Irinej has emphasized that the Serbian Orthodox Church feels the grief and pain of the Greek Church and people over the terrible wildfire and destruction of homes and property, but primarily over the loss of human lives.
“We pray to the Lord for the victims. We will help as much as we can,” Patriarch Irinej says in a telegram.
Earlier, Patriarch Irinej appealed to the citizens and companies in Serbia to organize themselves and, according to their possibilities, to collect aid to help overcome the consequences caused by the great wildfires that hit the Greek people these days.
According to the latest information, the wildfires that hit Greece in the past few days killed about 80 people and hundreds of people have been injured.
