President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska, Zeljka Cvijanovic, received yesterday the delegation of the ‘Privrednik’ Foundation led by His Excellency Porfirije, Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The interlocutors talked about the initiative of opening the affiliate of the ‘Privrednik’ Foundation in Republic of Srpska which primarily intends to help gifted underprivileged children and students from all areas where Serbian people live.
President Dodik and Prime Minister Cvijanovic stated on this occasion their support to this initiative especially bearing in mind the historic legacy of this Foundation which facilitated education of many Serbian children and students and stressed that establishing of Privrednik affiliate in Banja Luka would be very significant and beneficial for the Republic of Srpska.
‘Privrednik’ Foundation was founded in 1897 in Zagreb and by the end of World War II facilitated education for 40 thousand children.
In addition to its humanitarian, the Foundation also has an important educational and cultural mission and aims to develop the feeling of national pride and sense of belonging to the same culture, history and tradition with young people.
The work of ‘Privrednik’ was banned in 1946 and then renewed in 1993 with its Founding Assembly in Novi Sad.
This Foundation now operates under altered historic and social circumstances in the Republic of Croatia based in Zagreb and the Republic of Serbia based in Novi Sad.
