Prime Minister Cvijanovic at Final Event of the IPA Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme in L’Aquila

Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska took part in the Final Event of the IPA Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme which took place on 4 December 2017 in the Italian city of L’Aquila.

The Conference was an opportunity to exchange views about the effects of cross-border cooperation in the previous budget period of the EU. President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani welcomed the attendants and addressed the event.

The participants assessed that the effects and the results of the Programme were visible but also identified possibilities for the improvement of cooperation.

In her addressing speech Prime Minister Cvijanovic stated that the Programme justified its purpose by enabling cooperation of institutions of eight countries and realization of more than a hundred projects for citizens whereas the Italian region of Abruzzo demonstrated the leading position in this programme of cross-border cooperation.  

The Programme, as Prime Minister stated, is intended to create conditions for economic growth and reduction of economic and social differences in the area of member countries of this IPA Adriatic Prorgamme through realization of infrastructure projects and strengthening of the business initiative.

The Prime Minister particularly emphasized the political dimension of the Programme as a preparation for those country members which have a candidate or potential EU candidate status.  

Prime Minister Cvijanovic extended her gratitude to President Tajani for indicating to the fact that the European Union, in addition to economic development, should also pay attention to addressing the issue of security risks in the Western Balkans.

-Republic of Srpska has given its full support to continuation of this Programme in which it took active part in order to facilitate implementation and financing of similar projects in the forthcoming period and to enhance the awareness about the importance of integration processes – the Prime Minister stated in her speech.

The Conference in L’Aquila was an opportunity for Prime Minister Cvijanovic to exchange views with President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani and Minister for European Affiars of the Monte Negro, Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic about European integration process in the Western Balkans.

In attendance of the Final Event of the IPA Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme were also Under Secretary of State at the Italian Ministry of Justice, Federica Chiavaroli, Member of the European Court of Justice, Ezio Perillo, Secretary – General of the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPRM), Eleni Marianou, Vice – President of the Adriatic – Ionian Euroregion, Aldrin Dalipi,  Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and President of the Italian region of Abruzzo, Luciano D’Alfonso.
