Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic, President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Speaker of the RS National Assembly Nedeljko Cubrilovic, yesterday, laid wreath on behalf of the institutions of the Republic of Srpska at the burial site ‘Topole’ within Donja Gradina Memorial Area for the innocent victims of the genocide committed by the Ustasha regime in the Jasenovac Concentration Camp and Donja Gradina.
Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic laid wreath on the behalf of the institutions of the Republic of Serbia.
During her speech Speaker of the Serbian Parliament emphasized that sufferings and atrocities committed in Jasenovac, one of the most horrible concentration camps in World War II must be talked about and stressed that present and future generations must testify and warn the mankind about it.
Ms. Gojkovic also said that the Serbian side would never allow that those horrific crimes are denied, justified or forgotten.
Addressing the participants of the commemoration, President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik stated that Jasenovac Concentration Camp was a state project of the Independent State of Croatia for which nobody had ever been brought to justice and which still had no official classification as the genocide against Serbs, Jews and Roma.
“This place compels a man to silence since there is nothing to say, but now I know that we have to speak out so that it would not be forgotten and taken to some dark places in the history and prevent that horrible pain and cry from happening again, the cry which could be heard only by the trees above us and the sky”, President Dodik said.
The prayer service for the killed Serbs was led by His Eminence Episcope Jefrem of Banja Luka at the grave site ‘Hrastovi’, the prayer in Jewish was read by the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community in Serbia, Isak Asiel and the prayer in Roma language was read by the member of the World Roma Parliament, Dragoljub Acković.
The Memorial Ceremony in Donja Gradina was attended by Government Ministers of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia, Members of the National Assembly of Republic of Srpska, Head of the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in Israel , Ari Livne, representatives of RS political and public life and many citizens.
