Russian Ambassador to BH Petr Ivantsov says the upcoming winter European Youth Olympic Festival EYOF 2019 in Istocno Sarajevo and Sarajevo will be a good basis for building cooperation between Russia and Republika Srpska.
Addressing reporters after a meeting with Istocno Sarajevo Mayor Nenad Vukovic, Ivantsov said around 160 athletes from Russia will take part in EYOF, who, he is certain, will enjoy their stay in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Istocno Sarajevo is an important and big part of Republika Srpska and we see a good opportunity for the development of our cooperation. We see good potential for cooperation in tourism and it would be very useful for Istocno Sarajevo to become a sister city with a city in Russia,” said Ivantsov.
Ivantsov stated that cooperation with the Mayor and Istocno Sarajevo would continue in the future.
Vukovic said it would be best if Istocno Sarajevo had a sister city in Russia that is a university centre or a city nurturing winter tourism.
According to him, they discussed Russian partnership in these parts and cooperation between the University of Istocno Sarajevo and faculties from Russia and commended the cooperation with the universities in Voronezh and Perm.
“It is well-known how much the Serbs in Republika Srpska and Serbia appreciate the partnership with Russia in these parts. For us, Russia is the guarantor of the Dayton Peace Agreement, a guarantor of life, freedom and the UN. Russia takes an important place in all Serb issues,” said Vukovic.
Vukovic briefed Ivantsov about the history of Istcno Sarajevo, which, according to the mayor, became the most desirable place for living in eastern Republika Srpska.
