Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the RS Petar Djokic put into operation a small hydroelectric power plant with the installed capacity of 4.8 megawatts in Jelec near Foca, in which the concessionaire, the company Petrol from Slovenia, invested a total of 6.250.000 EUR.
At the official ceremony was noted that two turbines of the small hydroelectric power plant “Jelec” will generate from 14 to 18 gigawatt hours of electricity on an annual basis, which is enough to provide electricity supply for a total of 4,000 households.
Djokic noted that the energy balance of the RS will be improved with the operation of this power plant.
“We put into operation about twenty small hydropower plants in the last three years, and 14 hydro power plants of similar capacity are currently under the construction. Moreover, we are also performing preparations for the beginning of major energy projects, such as the hydroelectric plant `Buk Bijela` on Drina River, and I hope that we will be able to announce a public call for the selection of partner for its construction,” stated Djokic.
Member of the Management Board of Group “Petrol” Rok Vodnik noted his belief that they will continue investing in projects of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Foca, Radisav Masic, said that this is the fourth hydro power plant that was constructed in the last four years in the area of this municipality and he noted that they expect benefit for local population and the entire local community.
