Vyacheslav Makarov, the Head of Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, pointed out in a Tuesday meeting with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik in St. Petersburg that the Russian city and Republika Srpska are connected by strong cultural, historical, political, and economic ties.

“Russia greatly appreciates the friendship and openness of our countries because our nations are genetically closely related– we are the Slavic nations,” Makarov said during the meeting.

He expressed deep gratitude to Srpska President Milorad Dodik for supporting Russia’s international initiatives, the St. Petersburg Parliament posted to its website.

Makarov said he was pleased with the fact that collaboration between Srpska and St. Petersburg grew by the year – solid contacts had been established in the pharmaceutical industry and medicine, cooperation between the chambers of commerce was growing, new joint projects between the Russian and Srpska universities were emerging.

Dodik thanked Makarov for a warm welcome and stressed his appreciation for the friendly ties with Russia.

“Russia is a big, strong state and it is very important for us to have mutual understanding and friendship between our countries,” said Dodik.

The two officials exchanged views on the issues of economic cooperation and international developments during the meeting.

The presidential office press release reads that the Srpska delegation is staying in St. Petersburg for the 4th International Congress St. Petersburg and the Slavic World, an event aiming to build cooperation and foster ties between the cities and regions of Eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula.
