The main event commemorating the Day of Republika Srpska, January 9 will be, just like before, a parade on the Krajina Square in Banjaluka and a solemn academy in the Borik Sports Hall, participants of a meeting where the Committee for the Day of Republika Srpska Celebration decided on Monday.

During the meeting in Banjaluka, which was chaired by President of Republika Srpska Željka Cvijanović, a programme of the celebration was adopted and a working group was formed to make preparations and commemorate the Day of Republika Srpska, the president’s office stated in a press release.

The Day of Republika Srpska 2020 celebration programme envisages receptions with the President for numerous delegations, a session of the Senate, as well as award of medals to meritorious institutions and individuals.

Wreaths and flowers will be laid to monuments to fallen veterans of the Army of Republika Srpska and WWII National Liberation Struggle, to the memorial ossuary, Monument to Banjaluka Babies, and the memorial of the former president of Republika Srpska Milan Jelić.

The Day of Republika Srpska will be marked in all cities and municipalities in Republika Srpska, as well as in the Brčko District.

Republika Srpska was established on January 9, 1992 under the initial name Serb Republic of BiH.

It was founded by Serb members of the then BiH Assembly after they had been outvoted on key matters regarding the survival of Yugoslavia and after members of the other two peoples had launched a secession bypassing the will of the Serbs who had the status of a constituent people.
