Republika Srpska Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic said that there is nothing untrue in a statement by the Dutch Ambassador to BiH, Juriaan Kraak, who said that not a single EU member state is of the opinion that the time is right to consider BiH’s application for membership in the EU.
“Ambassadors in BiH are prone to say or do some things in BiH which they would not do or say at any cost in some other country. This, in fact, speaks of BiH and the atmosphere which was created here during all these years where it has become normal to run to Embassies to get an opinion, where foreigners are interfering with decisions even on micro issues, so they are more comfortable to say that which they would never say in some other place. But, to be honest, if we neglect the fact that this was said by an ambassador, there is nothing untrue in this statement,” Cvijanovic told SRNA.
Asked to comment on the fact that the BiH Presidency vehemently condemned Kraak’s statement that not a single EU member state is of the opinion that the time is right to consider BiH’s application for membership in the EU and that he is shocked by the level of ignorance in BiH of procedures and phases in the process of integration with the EU, Cvijanovic said that it is known that not a single EU member state is of the opinion that BiH’s application is credible which is why the time is not right to consider it.
“Some good news from BiH would certainly be welcome in such a shaken Europe after the British referendum, but this does not mean that successes which do not exist will be fabricated,” she said.
Regarding the ignorance in BiH of phases of the integration process, Cvijanovic said that this also is absolutely true.
“People holding important offices are stating incredible and absolutely senseless things and are auctioning dates and decisions of the EU having not idea what is the sequence of events, what are the procedures, which EU bodies or institutions are dealing with what issue, neither do they know what BiH should do in which phase of this process,” Cvijanovic has said.
The BiH Presidency earlier today assessed the statement by ambassador Kraak that he was “shocked by the level of ignorance in BiH of the procedures and phases in the process of integration with the EU,” as undiplomatic, inappropriate, tendentious and malicious.
